Eyeglasses Collected for V.O.S.H.
|
Fremont Lions Club collected approximately two thousand pairs of eyeglasses through the placement of donation centers around town. After the December 19th meeting, Lion Ron Pardonnet, Lion Rich Osborn, Lion Don Potter and King Lion Rob Gibson sorted the glasses. The eyeglasses are sent to the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University to be sorted. After that, they will go to the Ionia Correctional Facility to be graded, polished and repaired if needed. From there they will be distributed to many different teams who in turn distribute them in 3rd world countries. Dr. David
Oosting, a Fremont Optometrist is one of the V.O.S.H (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) team leaders. Lion Ron Pardonnet and Lion Rich accompanied Dr. Oosting to St. Lucia on several trips. St. Lucia is an island in the Caribbean. The team sees about 600 patients during the week and is assisted by members of the 5 Lions Clubs on the island. This year marks their 10th anniversary. Lion Rich Osborn has participated in 9 of the 10 years. Lion Ron Pardonnet participated in 8 of the trips.
Please encourage friends and neighbors to donate to this worthy cause. The Fremont eyeglass donation locations are located in several local businesses including Wal-Mart, Samuel's and at Dr. David Oosting's office.. Please contact the Fremont Lions Club if you would like offer a new location.
