WHO’S
THAT PUTTING UP FLAGS?
Have you ever
wondered who puts up the flags and takes them down in Fremont? The Fremont
Lions Club has been serving Fremont with this project for over two
decades. The funding for this project comes from a few Fremont Chamber of
Commerce members and some other private sources. Help also comes from the
Newaygo County Career Technical Center welding department. The students
there make the flag brackets for us. The city of Fremont maintenance
department helps by installing these brackets on the street light poles.
So you see it is a
community project with many persons helping. The Fremont Lions manage the
project and they are the ones running up and down Main Street putting up
and taking down the flags on major holidays and special events days. We
feel that the display of over ninety U.S. Flags along our streets is a
testimony to the patriotic spirit of our city.
There is an on-going cost
for this project in that the flags wear out and fade over time and must be
replaced. Also the Lions would like to increase the display of flags. It
is our hope to add 33 more flags on Main Street, starting from Veteran’s
Memorial Park and going West.
The Lions Club is a
non-profit organization, which serves the community in many ways. If you
feel inclined to help support this flag project, you could send a check to
the Fremont Lions Club, P.O. Box 115, Fremont, MI 49412. Contributed money
beyond the flag project needs will be used to help the Lions serve those
who have special needs.
Please let us know if
there is anywhere we could purchase 3 X 5 stitched nylon flags for less
than 22 dollars.
Thanks Fremont for your
continued support.
